TOTH’s structural engineers are efficient in designing safe havens in the community while not going over on FEMA grant budgets. We specialize in and are familiar with pre-design, design, project management, and construction administration of safe rooms designed to meet the requirements of FEMA-361 and ICC-500 funded through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) and the Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) grant programs.
Our experienced structural engineers have designed safe rooms as gymnasiums, higher-education classroom buildings, performing-arts centers, and community centers. Design requirements of a safe room go above and beyond standard building design. Facilities must be able to withstand wind speeds from 130 mph to 250 mph and specific flying-debris or missile-impact criteria.
