Irving Elementary School
Description:
TOTH provided structural engineering services for the new Irving elementary school that was destroyed in a tornado in May of 2011. The structure was built over a previous mining operation, and is supported on micropiles embedded in bed rock. The structure is generally braced steel frames. The programming incorporates two separate safe rooms for the protection of students and the surrounding public during inclement weather. Both safe rooms are designed to withstand an EF-5 tornado (250 mph winds).
