JTEC – Republic 161 kV Transmission Line
Description:
The JTEC to Republic Transmission Line Project consists of a new five (5) mile 161 kV transmission line extending from the John Twitty Energy Center in Springfield, Missouri, to the Republic Substation in Republic, Missouri. This project marks a critical addition to City Utilities’ west-side transmission loop, enhancing system reliability and capacity in a growing region. The line includes 12.47 kV distribution underbuild and communication underbuild, providing a comprehensive solution for electric and communications infrastructure along the corridor.
TOTH served as the Engineer of Record and led the project from initial planning through final construction. Services included full transmission line design, development of construction assemblies, staking sheets, guying guides, and stringing charts, along with material specification and procurement support. TOTH also handled right-of-way acquisition, boundary and topographic surveying, and environmental permitting, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and stakeholder requirements. Special attention was given to integrating fiber communications, including OPGW routing and splice point location planning.
During construction, TOTH provided on-site staking and observation, contract administration, and ongoing project management to coordinate between City Utilities, contractors, and suppliers. Regular construction updates, schedule oversight, and issue resolution were integral to maintaining progress and quality control. The result was a successful, well-coordinated project that strengthens the local transmission network while incorporating modern distribution and communications infrastructure.
