Elbe Substation Rebuild
Description:
The Elbe Substation project is a 32 MVA 115/25 kV distribution substation rebuild. The project approach requires a phased design of construction to allow half of the existing station’s low side to remain energized while the other half is replaced; then the remainder of the existing station’s low side will be replaced, with loads gradually being moved from the existing station to the new station. This allows the District to provide continuity of service to their members while updating their facilities. The low side of the station is configured as a main and transfer bus arrangement with an ultimate configuration of transformers, four reclosers, and 14.4 kV voltage regulators.
Services – TOTH’s design and drawing package services included electrical, civil, and structural engineering for the following aspects of the project: field topographical survey, steel structures, foundations, general arrangement, lighting, ground grid, auxiliary AC and DC systems, and material list. In addition to the design, TOTH produced and reviewed specifications for a prefabricated control enclosure, 115 kV circuit switcher, relay panels, and switches, in addition to construction specifications. Additionally, TOTH monitored long lead time equipment and incorporated their procurement schedules into the overall project schedule to ensure a reasonable timeline was developed for the project as industry lead times fluctuated
