City of West Plains – Storage Capacity Analysis Study
Description:
As part of our comprehensive system study for the City of West Plains, it was determined that their existing storage capacity was insufficient for the City’s current needs. As a result, TOTH conducted an in-depth study of the City’s existing storage tanks and overall system hydraulics.
Several phased alternatives were developed to bring the City’s storage capacity in line with their current needs. These alternatives included options to utilize some of the City’s existing upper pressure zone tanks in order to provide capacity to the lower pressure zone.
The selected alternative consists of the construction of two (2) new CET style water towers in the downtown pressure zone and the concurrent removal of the two (2) existing standpipes in that zone. Pine Street Tank would be elevated approximately 30 feet to fully utilize the existing storage in that tank. For the high service pumps at the water treatment plant to pump water to the higher elevation, an additional stage would be required on each of the three (3) pumps. Lastly, pressure reducing valves will have to be installed on approximately 254 individual structures in the downtown zone, due to the newly raised hydraulic grade line.
