City of Springfield – Hampton Avenue Stormwater Improvements
Description:
TOTH assisted the City of Springfield with the design of new stormwater improvements along Hampton Avenue and Seminole Street. The existing drainage pattern through this well-established neighborhood directs stormwater runoff through residential backyards by way of an undersized grass channel. The grass channel has multiple sharp bends, large trees through the center, and several existing fences impeding flow. The City has received numerous complaints from the neighborhood, necessitating the need for improvements in this area.
The drainage area through this corridor comprises approximately 90 acres of residential and dense commercial development. TOTH’s design consisted of relieving the pressure on the undersized grass channel by the construction of a new stormwater collection system to capture and direct flow around the channel. The stormwater improvements consisted of approximately 2,000 linear feet of storm sewer pipe ranging from 15″ to 42″, approximately 75 linear feet of 2.5’x6’ reinforced concrete box culvert, and 21 concrete inlets.
