City of Seymour | SMCOG – DNR-Funded Water Quality Study

Stormwater Management, Civil Engineering, Projects

Description:

The Southwest Missouri Council of Governments (SMCOG) secured the services of TOTH for a DNR-funded study of the City of Seymour’s stormwater collection system. The City was having issues with water quality due to stormwater not being drained effectively. This caused businesses to flood, ponding of residential roads, and roads overtopping. The City also experienced water quality issues affected by the runoff as it made its way to Finley Creek – overloading the wastewater treatment facility, infiltrating the City’s groundwater wells, and affecting the public water supply.
TOTH reviewed the existing stormwater infrastructure and provided recommendations to improve the City’s water quality. The work included meeting with the City to discuss problematic areas in the stormwater system, reviewing files and maps, holding two public meetings with the residents of Seymour, visiting the problematic areas, assessing previous reports, analyzing system performance, surveying the system, mapping it, evaluating needed improvements, and developing alternative solutions to improve the system’s performance in the short and long term.
