Archie Schools Additions, Renovations, and Safe Room
Description:
Toth and Associates provided structural engineering services for additions, renovations, and construction of a new FEMA safe room for Archie School District. Renovations were done to the school’s entrance and cafeteria. The safe room serves as a gym for the students and protections against severe storms for the students, faculty, and visitors. What makes this safe room unique is the domed roof. Structural services for the safe room included cast-in-place concrete for footings, foundation walls, and slabs-on-grade, as well as concrete unit masonry, structural steel framing, steel joist framing, and steel decking. The renovations to the existing building included demolition and removal of selected portions of the structure, cast-in-place concrete, and metal building systems.
