Wheatridge 230kV Double Circuit
Description:
TOTH engineered and designed the new Wheatridge 230kV transmission line for Umatilla Electric Cooperative. The line runs approximately 23.5 miles from an existing BPA Morrow Flat Substation south along Bombing Range Road to the new Blueridge Collector Station.
Portions of the line include a second circuit with a voltage level of 115kV. The new construction replaces approximately 5.6 miles of existing 115kV and about 9.6 miles of existing 12.47kV overhead distribution with new 3-phase 12.47kV underground construction.
TOTH successfully met several challenges throughout the project. Some of those intricacies were managing landowner relationships, as the project ran primarily through irrigated agricultural lands and we did not want to unduly impact any farming operations. Additionally, the route presented complex terrain situations such as crossing canals, working with the ODOT on a complex interstate crossing, working with Port Authorities, and managing air-space adjacent to the Naval base bombing range.
