Celebrating Women in STEM

Celebrating Women in STEM
International Women in Engineering Day, celebrated in June, is a tribute to the remarkable achievements of women who have significantly impacted our lives. At Toth & Associates (TOTH), we embrace this occasion to honor and recognize the invaluable contributions of women to society, culture, history, and global innovation. Our deep appreciation extends to all the women who have enriched the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and we encourage more women to pursue these fulfilling career paths.
The success of our company owes much to the women of TOTH, who have made significant strides despite working in a predominantly male-dominated engineering industry. While we acknowledge the ongoing need for greater representation within our field and organization, we have made it a priority to recruit women for engineering, technical, and professional roles. As a result, women now comprise over 20% of our STEM-related positions, surpassing the industry average. Since 2020, more than 30% of our new hires have been women. Moving forward, TOTH remains committed to fostering diversity at all levels of our organization.
TOTH takes pride in its team of highly skilled women, including electrical, civil, and structural engineers, professional land surveyors, CPAs, accountants, rate specialists, geographic information systems (GIS) professionals, computer-aided design (CAD) technicians, engineering technicians, land services professionals, project managers, grant writers and administrators, contract managers, and project coordinators. Additionally, our exceptional professional women play critical roles in supporting our technical team and ensuring the success of our company. Their expertise spans accounting, human resources, administration, and marketing, all of which are vital to delivering outstanding results for our clients and the operations of our company.
On this special day of recognition, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible women in our organization. Each team member holds immeasurable value, and we acknowledge and appreciate their profound contributions to TOTH.
Women in History
TOTH wants to honor the trailblazing women in STEM who have made significant contributions throughout history. Among these exceptional women are Edith Clarke (1883-1959), the first female electrical engineer and the first female electrical engineering professor. Emily Roebling (1843-1903) made history as the first woman to lead the American Society of Civil Engineers and a collaborator on the Brooklyn Bridge (1869-83). Marion Frieswyk (1921-2021) broke barriers as the first female intelligence cartographer for the C.I.A. in 1942. Ada Lovelace (1815-1852), a renowned mathematician, is widely recognized as the first computer programmer, having developed an algorithm for an analytical engine to calculate Bernoulli numbers in 1836. Emmy Noether (1882-1935), one of the most influential women mathematicians in history, is best known for her discovery of the Noether Theorem. The immeasurable contributions made by women in STEM throughout history should be comprehensively acknowledged, as the list of female innovators and their impacts are endless.
